Embedded Software Lead

We are looking for an embedded software engineer to lead the development and deployment of software used for vehicle control in real world autonomous driving applications.  This individual will work with a team of embedded software developers to write software for the electronic control modules that are the foundation of our self-driving vehicles.

Responsibilities: 
  • Lead a team of embedded software developers 
  • Perform the software architecture design for embedded systems used to control our self-driving vehicles
  • Develop safety critical embedded software used in automotive and off-highway environments
  • Work closely with hardware engineers to define requirements for embedded systems
  • Collaborate with software engineers who are integrating TORC’s embedded systems into an autonomous vehicle
Qualifications: 
  • A degree in robotics, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field
  • Exceptional C++ programming skills 
  • Experience writing software for microcontrollers
  • Understanding of low level communications protocols used to communicate with embedded peripherals
  • Experience with “bare metal” programming
  • Experience writing software for memory constrained hardware
  • Able to read hardware schematics and understand basic electrical theory
  • Demonstrated ability to decompose high level system problems into root cause issues
  • Efficient problem solving and prioritization
  • Familiarity with communication protocols used in an automotive environment
  • Comfortable with concepts often used in robotics such as, Kalman filters, PID control,   
  • Hands on experience developing embedded systems for automotive, off-highway, or other industry 
  • Ability to write clear and concise engineering documentation
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Proficiency in vehicle control systems or similar control systems design is beneficial
  • Open to occasional travel to remote test locations or partner facilities
