Systems Safety Engineer

At Torc, safety is foundational to the technology we are developing.  We are looking for a Systems Safety Engineer to coordinate Torc’s safety engineering process.   
 
Responsibilities include:
 
  • Facilitating hazard analyses, forming safety requirements, and evaluating system architectures and designs for safety.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams to implement verification strategies necessary to ensure the system and all sub components meet the safety requirements.
  • Maintaining the safety culture at Torc. Reinforcing the importance of safety throughout the engineering and development process.
  • Participate in design reviews, ensuring safety considerations are addressed appropriately
  • Driving continuous improvement of Torc’s safety engineering process.  Implement new strategies as necessary to adapt efficiently to the changing scope of autonomous vehicle development and deployment at Torc.
  • Working closely with our partners and their systems safety engineering departments, to ensure full system coverage as our technologies are integrated into larger systems.
  • Maintaining clear documentation and traceability of the safety concept, design, verification, production, and deployment, throughout the entire safety lifecycle.
 
Qualifications include:
 
  • BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • High level of organization; efficient in process management
  • Experience performing hazard analyses, and using tools such as STPA, FMEA, FTA etc.
  • Understanding of software safety, validation, and verification processes, with experience in software development is desired
  • Passion for safety and autonomous mobility technologies
  • Clear and efficient communication.  Comfortable presenting safety and technical information to a wide audience, including upper level management and external organizations.
  • Systems-level thinking, with underlying engineering competency of the complex electromechanical and software systems used in self-driving vehicles
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508 or other derivatives is desired

Must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
